The GLS Bank is the first sustainable bank in Germany and was founded in 1974.

Company profile

GLS Bank: humane - forward-looking - economic

Money is for people - GLS Bank has been working according to this guiding principle since 1974. The social-ecological bank is the pioneer for sustainable enterprises and projects. It offers investments, financing, equity capital, foundations and donations from a single source.

Following clear criteria, it finances forward-looking developments ranging from renewable energies and ecological agriculture to free schools and kindergartens, facilities for the disabled, housing projects, sustainable business or cultural initiatives.

Comprehensive transparency

GLS Bank's comprehensive transparency enables its customers to see where their invested money is having an impact: All loans given as well as the bank's own investments are published on an ongoing basis.

The consistent concept of GLS Bank is successful: In 2021, GLS Bank gave loans worth 4.4 billion euros in its branches.

In a nationwide customer survey conducted by n-tv and the German Institute for Service Quality, customers voted GLS Bank "Bank of the Year" for the eighth year in a row in 2017.

In the Fair Finance Guide, GLS Bank once again made it to first place in the sustainability ranking.

The cooperative bank is headquartered in Bochum with branches in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart.

The more than 330,000 customers can of course conduct their banking transactions online.
