Regionalverband FrankfurtRheinMain
The FrankfurtRheinMain region is one of the leading regions in Europe.
The Regional Authority FrankfurtRheinMain, based in Frankfurt am Main, was established in 2011 according to the “Frankfurt/Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region Act” (Metropolgesetz FrankfurtRheinMain) passed by the Hessian State Parliament and currently comprises 80 member municipalities in the core of the region.
As well as bringing together important stakeholders, the Authority’s main task is to prepare and update the Regional Land Use Plan (Regionaler Flächennutzungsplan) and the Regional Landscape Plan. Furthermore, the approximately 120 employees work on many other important regional development issues. The Regional Authority is also home to the office of the broader FrankfurtRheinMain metropolitan region and responsible for the FrankfurtRheinMain European Office with a representative office in Brussels. The Regional Authority FrankfurtRheinMain sees itself as an initiator, facilitator and driving force that links local authorities and manages and coordinates regional development.
The Authority is managed by a ten-member board, two of whom are full-time. The board is elected by the Regional Chamber comprising 80 representatives from the member municipalities. The Chamber is the supreme decision-making body.
