Company profile

Allow us to introduce the BImA, the key real estate company for Germany’s Federal Government

The Institute for Federal Real Estate (Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben, BImA) is the key real estate company for Germany’s Federal Government. It forms part of the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Finance and acts in accordance with the modern standards of the real estate industry. The headquarters are located in Bonn. The main tasks of the BImA are the adoption of a standardised system of real estate management for the Federal Government and the administration and sale of real estate. It also looks after any land that it owns in line with forest and wildlife conservation measures. In addition, the BImA has an extensive supply of affordable housing which it makes available primarily to federal employees under the housing assistance scheme. The BImA supports the Federal Government’s housing drive by also undertaking building work of its own.

The BImA meets the need of government departments for property sites and space either through buildings and land that it owns itself, through the construction of new properties, or by purchasing or leasing property from a third party. It then makes these properties available to the respective users on the basis of rental contracts. The BImA manages a portfolio of 5,100 government properties, nearly all of the real estate used for official purposes. This includes, for example the administrative buildings of the ministries and higher federal authorities as well as the domestic properties of the German armed forces.
