It is far more than just our favourable location in the Rhineland region with approximately 8.5 million people that makes our Niederrhein Region interesting for businesses, investors and project developers. It is also our innovative, world-class companies across many industries; our multimodal infrastructure connected to the Rhine; plus our urban and countryside mix with a high quality of life.

The Niederrhein Region’s characteristic industries are chemicals, mechanical engineering, logistics, energy, agribusiness, electrical engineering, textiles and clothing, plus tourism. Vigorous industrial networks along the value chain and close links with a diverse higher education landscape keep the engines of innovation in gear. One of the many positive results: The export ratio is more than 50 %.

Our transport infrastructure closely links people and markets in all directions. Within a 100 kilometre radius, around 16 million consumers can be reached from the Niederrhein Region, in fact 40 % of the population of the EU are within a day’s journey by truck. Sea-going coastal vessels sail from the North Sea to the eight Rhine ports of the cities of the Niederrhein Region and the piers of the chemical parks; a sea port connection via autobahn to the ZARA habours is usually less than 200 kilometres away; passengers and freight fly to and from the two nearby international airports of Düsseldorf and Cologne / Bonn – or directly via the two regional airports at Weeze and Mönchengladbach.
